CONCORDIA, Minn. -- Concordia used a nine-run third inning to catapult it to a 15-6 win and scored 10 runs in the first two innings of game two en route to a 16-6 win to sweep Macalester in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader at Burgau Field.
The twin bill started off well for the Scots as
Quentin Stuart hit a three-run home run to give the visitors an early, 3-0, lead and, after the Cobbers scored twice in the bottom of the second inning, Macalester tacked on another run when
Alex Baretta scored on Stuart's sacrifice fly.
The bottom of the third inning proved to be Macalester's undoing as Concordia scored nine times in an inning highlighted by Cody Rahman, who began the rally with a two-run home run and ended it with a two-run single.
Nick Sia and
Sam Berk both had two hits, with Berk collecting his 12th double of the season. On the mound,
Doug Lewis worked a 1-2-3 sixth inning.
Game two saw the hosts score four times in first inning and, after the Scots got one run back in the top of the second, the Cobbers tacked on six more runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Macalester scored three times in the fourth inning and added two more in the fifth, with Stuart hitting his second home run of the day to pull the Scots to with four runs at 10-6. However, Concordia responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and ended the game with a four-run seventh.
Baretta, Ben Castegnetti and
Jonathan Melms each had two hits in the game to pace Macalester offensively.
The Scots are in action again Sunday when they host Wisconsin-Stout in a non-conference doubleheader at Nicholson Field with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
