ST. PAUL, Minn. --Â St. Thomas won all three doubles matches and Macalester was unable to overcome the early deficit as the Scots bowed out of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference playoffs after a 6-3 loss to the Tommies.
After St. Thomas took a 3-0 lead heading into singles play, the match was tightly contested.
Three of the six singles matches went to super tie breakers as
Josh Doyle won at one singles, coming back from a first-set loss for a 3-6, 6-3, 10-7 victory.
Aidan Tirpack lost his first set in a tie breaker but came from behind to earn a 6-7 (1-7), 6-4, 10-7 victory at three singles.
Meanwhile,
Brian Utz cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win at two singles.
Sam Naden would fall in a super tie breaker, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7, at four singles and St. Thomas claimed wins at five and six singles to close out the match..
Macalester finished the season 9-9 overall, its best record since going 13-8 in 2009-10.
