MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Macalester had to overcome a 2-1 deficit following doubles play and did so by winning four of six singles matches to earn a 5-4 win over Saint Mary's for the Scots first Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win of the season.
Josh Doyle and
Wilson Merrell earned a hard-fought, 8-5, win at number two doubles but Saint Mary's claimed victories at one and three doubles to take a lead heading into singles play.
Doyle cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 win at two singles and
Aidan Tirpack turned in a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2 win at three singles to tie the match but it was
Sam Naden, at five singles, and
Perry Campbell, at six singles, who sealed the win. Naden was a 6-4, 6-3 winner while Campbell won 6-3, 6-3 to give the Scots the win.
Macalester returns to action tomorrow as the Scots travel to Sartell where they will face St. John's in a 1 p.m. match at the Fitness Revolution Tennis Center.
