Men's Soccer: Macalester offense rolls in win over Coe

Five different players scored in the Scots' six-goal victory.

Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Five different players scored goals and Macalester got its offense on track in a 7-1 win over Coe.

Coe got the early advantage barely six minutes into the game when Scot goalkeeper Zeke Vainer was unable to control a long shot by Martin Lacher and Keegan McIntosh was there for the Kohawks to tap in the rebound.

The Scots came back less than two minutes later to tie the score when Austin Burrows picked up a loose ball at the top of the crease and buried his third goal of the season.

The go-ahead goal came on a Coe error when Tristan Springer got the ball near the right sideline and sent a long ball into the penalty box. A Kohawk defender attempted a header to clear the ball but, instead, put it past his own goalie to give Macalester a 2-1 lead.

The Scots would go onto control much of the game from that point and would take a 4-1 lead into halftime.

Charlie Spurr upped the Macalester lead to 3-1 when he scored in the 22nd minute and Max Abramson notched his first collegiate goal in the 39th minute after Alan Schembri-Wismayer pushed a ball through the middle and Abramson split the defenders to collect the pass and give the Scots a three-goal lead.

Cole Erickson and Dylan Wong got in on the scoring parade just 26 seconds apart in the 53rd minute. Erickson scored when Spurr made a one-touch pass off a Schembria-Wismayer corner kick and Wong's goal came off a Charlie Moore pass and he buried his second goal of the season from 10 yards out.

The scoring in the 7-1 rout finally ended with just 1:32 to play as Will Matsuda collected a loose ball along the end line to the right of the Kohawks' goal, passed it back to Dylan Wong at the top of the crease and Wong proceeded to cash in for his second goal of the season.

In a dominating performance, Macalester outshot Coe, 30-5, and had an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The win gives the Scots a 2-1-0 record as they head into Sunday's home game with Lake Forest, which gets underway at 2 p.m. at Macalester Stadium.
