ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team ranks among the top men's soccer programs in the nation, regardless of division, with a team grade-point average of 3.72 for the 2025-26 academic year. The achievement earned the Team Academic Award from the United Soccer Coaches, the organization announced today. The Scots were one of 329 men's teams to earn the award, with Macalester joining 178 schools that had both men's and women's teams recognized.

Macalester, coached by Gregg Olson, is tied for eighth among Division III programs and is ninth overall. The Scots have a history of excellence in the classroom, as the team has posted the highest team GPA among all divisions during the 2021-22 and 2024-25 academic years. Macalester also led all Division III programs during the 2019-20 season, and ranked second nationally and in Division III in 2023-24 with a team GPA of 3.79, behind only MIT. This is the 14th consecutive year the Scots have earned the Team Academic Award, which requires a team GPA of at least 3.0.

Last fall, recent graduates Alex Beck-Ruiz (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd) and Nick Kent (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park), rising seniors Chris Frantz (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove), Zach Liptzin (Denver, Colo./Northfield) and Michael Myers (San Rafael, Calif./Marin Catholic), and rising junior Jonathan Kim (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) were named to the CSC Academic All-District Team. The six Scots were among 17 members of the men's soccer team to earn Academic All-MIAC accolades last fall.
