ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College senior forward Ondieki Maina (Kensington, Calif./El Cerrito) and junior midfielder Kasdan Blattman (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine) were named to the 2025 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III All-America second team, the organization announced today. The two Scots are Macalester's first men's soccer All-Americans since 2010, marking the first time since 1990 that Macalester has two All-Americans in the same year.

Maina and Blattman played significant roles in leading the Scots to one of the most successful seasons in the program's history. Macalester won its final six regular-season games to earn the No. 2 seed in the MIAC Playoffs, then beat Gustavus and top-seeded St. Olaf to capture the program's second MIAC Playoff championship. The title gave the Scots an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, with Macalester defeating Illinois Wesleyan in the first round before earning a thrilling 2-1 victory over UW-Eau Claire in the second round to advance to the Sweet 16. Blattman scored the first goal on a penalty kick earned by Maina, then Maina broke a 1-1 tie with his game-winner in the 81st minute.

During the team's 10-game winning streak, both Maina and Blattman stood out, with Maina registering seven goals and nine assists for 24 points, and Blattman tallying five goals and seven assists for 17 points. Their performances altered the trajectory of the Scots' season, which progressed into the third round of the NCAA Tournament for just the fourth time in program history. Macalester lost to No. 8 Wheaton College, 1-0 in the third round.

"We are all obviously very proud of Ondieki and Kasdan! They are deserving of the accolades as they tormented our opponents this season," Macalester head coach Gregg Olson said. "Ondi and Kas were certainly key players for us and instrumental to our success. I'm sure they would be the first to acknowledge that this incredible honor is a reflection of the success that the team had this season. Our success came from the entire group, it was done "by committee." Players like Nick Kent (St. Louis Park, Minn./St. Louis Park), Drew Moseman (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Central), Chris Frantz (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove), Alex Beck-Ruiz (Oakland, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd), etc., the supporting cast of players around these two incredible players was at a very high level."

Maina led the Scots with nine goals and 10 assists for 28 points to rank third in the MIAC in assists and ninth in points. In the final regular season game against Bethel, Maina tallied two goals and two assists in a 5-1 victory that clinched second place in the MIAC. He assisted on both goals in a 2-1 win over Gustavus in the semifinals of the MIAC Playoffs, then found the net twice to lead Macalester past No. 4 St. Olaf, 4-1 in the title game. In 61 career games, Maina has 12 goals and 15 assists for 39 points.

A two-time All-Region midfielder, Blattman registered career-bests of six goals and 12 assists for 24 points, ranking second in the MIAC in assists. Blattman also scored twice in the win over Bethel and hit a laser into the goal against St. Olaf to put Macalester up 3-0 in the MIAC final. He also stood out in the NCAA Tournament, registering an assist in the win over Illinois Wesleyan and scoring from the penalty spot in the victory over UW-Eau Claire. Blattman has 11 goals and 20 assists in 59 games as a Scot.

Maina and Blattman are the first Macalester men's soccer All-Americans since Nate Juergens '11 in 2010. The only other time the Scots placed two players on the All-America teams was in 1990, when Macalester Hall of Famers Roger Bridge '92 and Matt Jackson '92 both were named All-Americans.
