Men’s Tennis: Scots close out season against Carleton

The Macalester men's tennis team lost a heartbreaker in their final match of the spring season. The Scots fell 6-3 against Carleton, which drops them to 4-5 in the conference and barely missing out on a MIAC postseason berth.

The Scots took two out the three of doubles matches. The pair of Brian Utz (So., Rochester, Minn. / Lourdes) and Alasdair McClintic (Fy., Geneva, Switzerland / Phillips Academy (Mass.)) defeated the Knights 8-6, while Sam Naden (Jr., Middleton, Wis.) and Paul Yeo (So., Temple City, Calif.) also defeated their Carleton counterpart by the same score.

Max Soghikian (Sr., Piedmont, Calif.) was the only Macalester player to win his respective singles match. In the final match of his Macalester career, Soghikian won a thriller. He won the first set 6-0, dropped the second set 4-6, and won the third set tiebreaker in dramatic fashion 10-8.

Unfortunately, the Scots were unable to deliver and more victories in singles competition. The men tie for the sixth in the MIAC with a 4-5 conference record, but lose out on a tiebreaker to St. John's for the final playoff spot. The team finishes with an overall record of 8-8.
