Macalester vs. St. Olaf box score
In one of the closest and longest matches in recent Macalester men's tennis memory, St. Olaf held off the Scots 5-4 in a marathon MIAC match in Owatonna. Five of the six singles matches went to the 10-point super-set tiebreaker.
St. Olaf moves up to 5-9 overall and 4-4 in MIAC matches. Mac drops to 12-5 on the season, 4-3 in the MIAC. Both teams have qualified for the six-team
MIAC playoffs set for May 7-8 in St. Peter. The other qualifiers are Gustavus, Carleton, St. Thomas and Bethel.
Macalester picked up three-set decisions at first and second singles.
Michael Coleman (Jr., Westlake Village, Calif. / Agoura) won 4-6, 7-5, 11-9 at No. 1, and
Chris Fowler (So., Toronto, Ont. / Royal St. Georges) won 7-5, 3-6, 12-10 in matches that were typical in this battle. Mac also received a 1-6, 6-1, 10-8 victory from
Max Edwards (Fy., Rochester, Minn. / Mayo) at No. 5.
Paul Mairet (Jr., Rochester, Minn. / Century) and Coleman improved to 5-2 in the MIAC and 9-5 as a doubles tandem by registering an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles.
The Scots host Carleton on Wednesday (April 28) at Hayden Courts at 6 p.m.
