Macalester vs. Bethel box score
The Scots earned one of their biggest wins in years when they took down Bethel 5-4 Saturday at Hayden Tennis Courts, winning two of the three doubles matches and splitting the three singles matches. Macalester improves to 10-3 on the spring season and 2-1 in the conference. The Royals, last year's third-place MIAC team, drops to 6-3 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Although the Scots dropped a tough 9-8 match at second doubles, they took the lead going into singles play by winning at first and third doubles.
Michael Coleman (Jr., Westlake Village, Calif. / Agoura) and
Paul Mairet (Jr., Rochester, Minn. / Century) won 8-6 at No. 1, while
Max Edwards (Fy., Rochester, Minn. / Mayo) and
Justin Margolies (Jr., Madison, Wis. / West) claimed an 8-4 victory at No. 3.
Mac went 3-3 in singles play, led by a 6-4, 0-6, 14-12 victory by Coleman at No. 1. Edwards won 6-4, 4-6, 10-4 at No. 5 and Margolies won 6-1, 7-6 at No. 6.
After playing four matches in five days, the Scots are off until they host St. John's on April 10.
