Gusties dash Macalester’s post-season hopes

Macalester vs. Gustavus box scores: Game 1 | Game 2

Gustavus Adolphus dashed Macalester's chances of making it to the four-team MIAC tourney by sweeping the Scots 11-3 and 8-6 in St. Peter.

The Scots are 17-19 overall and 8-10 in the MIAC and under any scenario, it will take at least 11 conference wins to make the playoffs. The young Scots will close out the campaign Saturday (May 2) at home against Bethel at 1 p.m. The Royals will be playing for a possible post-season spot.

Gustavus set the stage by responding to a Macalester run in the top of the first inning of the opener with six runs of its own in the bottom of the frame, starting off with a walk, a hit-by-pitch and another walk, before adding four hits. Robert Williams (Fy., West Covina, Calif. / Northview) had two doubles and Nate Wilson-Traisman (Jr., Eugene, Ore. / South Eugene) added a double and a single to lead the Scots.

Macalester led 3-0 and 6-2 in the second contest before the Gusties made it 6-4 in the fifth inning and taking the sweep with four decisive runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Wilson-Traisman added another two hits for this Scots to boost his team-high batting average to .438 (53-for-121) with 41 RBI's in 36 games. He's played every inning of the season at shortstop and his slugging percentage is now .645.  Jason Friedman (Jr., New York, N.Y. / The Browning School) and Graham Brown (Fy., Annandale, Minn.) also contributed a pair of hits each. Williams had his third double of the twinbill and Devin English (Jr., Annapolis, Md. / DeMatha) drove in two runs.

GAC's Andrew Woitas went 6-for-8 with six RBI in the two games to lead the Gustie attack.
