Upset bid falls one point short at Carleton

Macalester vs. Carleton box score

Macalester played one of its best matches of year to close out the spring season, but came up one point short in a 5-4 loss at Carleton, the MIAC's second-place team. The Scots wrap up a solid campaign with a 10-11 overall mark and 3-6 MIAC record.

Wins at first and second doubles and a narrow two-point setback at third doubles, gave the Scots hopes of pulling out the upset. Charlie Edelman (Sr., Tucscon, Ariz. / University) and Michael Coleman (So., Westlake Village, Calif. / Agoura) won 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, while Chris Fowler (Fy., Toronto, Ont. / Royal St. George's) and Ali Bandeali (Fy., Karachi, Pakistan / Karachi Grammar School) came out on top 8-6.

Edelman and Coleman went 9-12 at No. 1 doubles this year, including a respectable 4-5 in the MIAC.

Edelman, the last in a long line of Macalester standouts from Tucson, winds up his senior season with a 10-10 record at No. 1 singles and 9-12 mark at No. 2 doubles. He's never had a losing singles record and concludes his career with a 41-28 singles record and 36-37 doubles record.

Carleton pulled out three-set victory at No. 6 singles to swing the match its way. Macalester singles winners were Coleman at No. 2 and Evan Elderbrock (Fy., Madison, Wis. / West) at No. 5.
