Macalester won the first game of a Spring Break doubleheader in Phoenix with Marian (Wis.) to improve to 8-5 on the season, but the Sabres came back to win the nightcap 11-4.
James Murrey (Jr., Western Springs, Ill. / Lyons Township) struck out a career-high 14 batters in the opening game, improving to 2-0 on the trip and 3-1 on the season. He gave up eight hits and stranded eight runners on base. Murrey's previous career strikeout best was 11 achieved in back-to-back starts last season against St. Mary's and Concordia.
The Scots received a pair of hits each from
Mitch Glasser (Fy., Chicago, Ill. / Latin School),
Nate Wilson-Traisman (Jr., Eugene, Ore. / South Eugene) and
Robert Williams (Fy., West Covina, Calif. / Northview).
Marian opened up a 1-1 contest with four runs in the top of the fourth in the nightcap and then added six more runs in the fifth to put things away. Wilson-Traisman went 2-for-2 with a couple RBI for the Scots to boost his batting average on the season over .500 at .511.
