Macalester bounced back from a 12-8 loss in the first game, taking the nightcap 7-4 to gain a split with No. 23-ranked Wheaton (Ill.) in Phoenix and winning its first Spring Break trip game. The Scots are now 6-3 on the year.
The Scots scored twice in the top of the opening frame in game one and never trailed in a contest that was close throughout. Leading 4-3 going into the seventh, Macalester added three insurance runs to put the Thunder away. Wheaton closes out its spring trip to Phoenix at 5-4 on the season.
James Murrey (Jr., Western Springs, Ill. / Lyons Township) worked the first five innings on the mound and allowed just three runs despite giving up seven hits and four walks.
Nick Meerson (Fy., Los Angeles, Calif. / Harvard-Westlake) pitched the final two innings, striking out four, to gain the save.

Wheaton took a 5-1 lead after two innings in the opening game and finished the contest with 13 hits, including six for extra bases. Division III Central Region player of the year Brian Kolb had a triple and a homer for the Thunder. Kennedy drove in three runs and scored two for the Scots.
