April 10 National Student-Athlete Day a big success; money raised for Special Olympics Minnesota
The Macalester Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted several events last Saturday (April 10) to celebrate National Student-Athlete Day. A barbeque with endless amounts of Scot Dogs were served during the softball game versus St. Mary’s and the men’s tennis match versus St. John’s. Commemorative National Student-Athlete Day T-shirts and cups were also given away, with designs by volleyball player, Taylor Tinkham '11.

March 4 Career Night is successful again
Macalester College SAAC and the M Club had their annual Career Night on March 4th. About 40 students and 12 alumni attended. Career Night was an informal chance for Mac athletes to mingle with local M Club members to discuss ways to find a job, how to go about graduate school, and how Macalester’s alumni ended up in the jobs they currently have.

Hoops for Hunger is Jan. 27 & 30

On Wednesday, January 27th and Saturday, January 30th, Macalester’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is holding the annual Hoops for Hunger event. SAAC is looking for donations of canned goods or money to contribute to the Second Harvest Heartland Food Shelf. There will be a table set up as fans enter Alumni Gymnasium. Come watch the men take on Bethel on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and St. Thomas on Saturday at 3 p.m.

All-Sports Extravaganza a big success
On November 14, 2009 the Student Athlete Advisory Committee invited young students from The St.Paul West 7th Community Center and ACES (Athletes Committed to Educating Students) after school program to
participate in a carnival-like sports day. The varsity athletes, along with the club Ultimate Frisbee and men's Hockey teams, spent four hours in the Leonard Center Field House interacting with the kids and teaching them skills that corresponded with their sport..

Toys for Teens Drive Completed
After hosting several Toys for Teens nights at the men's and women's basketball games and the Great Scot Invitational swimming meet, Macalester's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) raised $361.25 and collected 25 toys. The money we raised went to the Toys for Tots organization to buy toys for teenagers, the most neglected age group during the Toys for Teens season.

MIAC SAAC Toys for Teens Drive featured on KARE-11 TV
The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (MIAC SAAC) completed its eighth annual Toys for Teens Drive with a group donation at NBC KARE 11 in Golden Valley, Minn. on Tuesday night, December 15. A group of 20 SAAC representatives and administrators gathered to appear on the KARE 11 10 p.m. newscast and give their donatations to the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program.

SAAC raises $1,700 to fight breast cancer on Dig Pink / Kick Cancer Night Oct. 9

Macalester’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) raised over $1,700 to help fight breast cancer last Friday (Oct. 9) at volleyball’s “Dig Pink Night” match with Augsburg and the women’s soccer “Kick Cancer Night” match with UW-River Falls.
Dig Pink Night contributions totaled over $1,300 for the Side-Out Foundation. Contributors gave at the gate and also on-line. At soccer’s Kick Cancer Night, and a silent auction for the three pink game balls and contributions at the gate brought $400 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
SAAC raises food and money for Second Harvest Heartland

The SAAC's from Macalester and St. Thomas staged a very successful food drive during the football game Saturday (Sept. 5) between these two colleges for the benefit of Second Harvest Heartland in St. Paul, the largest food bank in the upper Midwest. The SAAC food and fund drive generated 844 pounds of food and $210 for Second Harvest Heartland. For every $1 donated, Second Harvest can distribute more than $9 worth of food to those in need.

Mac & UST SAACs sponsor food drive for Second Harvest
The Student Athlete Advisory Committees (SAAC) from Macalester and St. Thomas are working together to organize a food and fund drive during the football game between Macalester and St. Thomas on Saturday, September 5th. Donations will go to a local food bank in St. Paul, Second Harvest Heartland, the largest food bank in the upper-Midwest.
