ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team is ranked fifth in the latest Region IX rankings by the United Soccer Coaches, the organization announced today. The Scots dropped one spot after a 1-1 week has them at 2-1-3 on the season.

The week started with a narrow 1-0 loss on Wednesday at UW-Eau Claire, which moved up to No. 17 in the national rankings and No. 2 in the region. Macalester put five shots on goal compared to two for the Blugolds but were unable to break through. On Saturday, the Scots opened MIAC play with a 2-0 victory at St. Scholastica. Sophomore midfielder Milan Shah (Chicago, Ill./Francis W. Parker) and first year forward John Albright (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka) tallied goals in the 84th and 86th minutes to break open a scoreless tie. Senior midfielder Kasdan Blattman (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine) assisted on both goals.

St. Olaf is ranked No. 1 in both the national and Region IX this week. UW-Eau Claire is second in the regional rankings, followed by Saint John's, UW-Platteville and Macalester. Luther is ranked sixth, Augsburg is seventh and Gustavus is ranked eighth. The Scots have played or will play the other seven teams currently ranked in Region IX.

Macalester continues MIAC play with a home match against Hamline on Saturday, Sept. 26. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium.
