ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – The Macalester men's soccer team traveled to Bethel University Saturday afternoon. Despite going down by a goal early in the first half, the Scots fought back in the second to walk away with a 1-1 draw. Macalester is now 2-2-1 in conference and 4-3-4 overall on the season, while the Royals are now 3-8-2 overall and 0-3-2 in the MIAC.
The Royals took the lead in the fourth minute, before both defenses locked down. The Scots remained on the chase through halftime, until the 54th minute, when senior midfielder
Kasdan Blattman (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine) tied the score. The goal was assisted by first year forward
John Albright (Minnetonka, Minn./Minnetonka). It's the rookie's first assist as a Scot, after tallying up four goals this season.
The Scots fended off 13 shots from Bethel, while offering six of their own. Sophomore goalie
Justin Ratner (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) had one save in the second half. Albright and sophomore midfielder
Gaven Johnson (Harrison, Ohio/William Henry Harrison) each had one shot on goal.
It was a close battle between the teams, and despite the Scots' efforts, the game ended in a 1-1 draw. That didn't mean either side went easy: the teams combined for 23 fouls, and the referee delivered five yellow cards.
Macalester's next game will be Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. The Scots will host Concordia College at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium.
