ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College senior
Bailey Lengfelder (Renton, Wash./Hazen), sophomore
Ava Austria (Portland, Ore./Catlin Gabel) and first year
Yangyang Gu (Nantong, Jiansu, China/Shanghai Experimental School) were chosen to the All-MIAC team, as the conference announced its year-end awards for women's golf today. The three Scots helped their team finish second at the MIAC Championships in October for the program's highest finish at the conference tournament.
The MIAC Women's Golf All-Conference team was selected using a combination of MIAC championship results and end-of-season voting. The top 10 finishers (including ties) at the MIAC Championship last fall automatically earned All-MIAC honors, and coaches nominated and voted on five additional players to the All-MIAC squad based on their body of work throughout the season.
Lengfelder is the only Scot to make the All-MIAC team all four of her years at Macalester, and just the 27th women's golfer to accomplish the feat in recorded MIAC history. At the MIAC Championships, she posted scores of 71, 74 and 73 to take second at 218 (+2), breaking her own school record of 227 set at the 2022 MIAC Championships. That year Lengfelder tied for third, the first of four top six finishes and her best showing until this fall. She also won the CSB Invite and the DIII Classic last fall, and placed fourth at the Carleton/St. Kate's Final Fling this spring. Lengfelder, who has a career-best stroke average of 75.0, will find out later today if she has received an at-large berth into the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships.
Austria also broke the old school record for 54 holes at the MIAC Championships, tying for fourth with a score of 77 75 73 - 225 (+9). The performance marks her second top-10 finish after tying for 10th last year. She also turned in a sixth-place finish at the CSB Invite last fall. Her stroke average of 78.3 is tied for second on the team this season.
Gu made it three Scots in the top 10 at the MIAC Championships by tying for ninth with a score of 235 (+19). She also tied for sixth at last fall's CSB Invite, and tied for 18th this spring at the WashU Spring Invite. Gu's stroke average also is 78.3, tying with Austria for second on the team.
Carleton's Carter Sichol was named the MIAC Player of the Year, while Raquel Ahrens of St. Catherine was chosen the Rookie of the Year. Sloan Wallgren of Carleton was selected the MIAC Coach of the Year.
