SARTELL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's golf team started the new season on a winning note, taking first at the Saint Benedict Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday at Blackberry Ridge Golf Course. The Scots set a new school record for a two-round tournament with a score of 302 301 - 603.
First year
Marley Zhang (Hebei, China/Shanghai Hongqiao International School) won the tournament in her first competition as a collegian, shooting a 70 76 - 146 (+2) to win by three strokes. Junior
Ava Austria (Portland, Ore./Catlin Gabel) and first year
Eunice Lee (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) tied for third with scores of 152 (+8). Junior
Mia Cluff (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) also finished in the top 10, carding a 153 (+9) to tie for sixth. First year
Avy Martinez (Brownsville, Texas/Los Fresnos) tied for 32nd, while first year
Jessica Liu (Nanjing, Jiang Su, China/Future Academic of Science Technology) tied for 20th while competing as an independent.
This is the second year in a row that Macalester has won the CSB Invite, joining last year's squad that closed with a round of 303 to edge Saint Benedict by two strokes.
The Scots will compete in the D3 Classic, hosted by Gustavus at Emerald Greens in Hastings, Minn., next weekend.
