Women’s Golf: Macalester Ranked 24th in WGCA National Poll

| By:
ST. PAUL, Minn. – For the first time in the program's history, the Macalester College women's golf team appears in the top 25 of the Division III WGCA Coaches Poll, the Women's Golf Coaches Association announced today. The Scots are ranked 24th with 67 points.

The ranking follows an impressive performance at the Golfweek October Classic, held Oct. 18-20 in Destin, Fla. The Scots finished second out of 24 teams with a three-round score of +55 919, one stroke over the school record for a 54-hole tournament. Seventh-ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor won the event, while Macalester finished ahead of No. 15 Illinois Wesleyan, No. 16 Trinity (Texas), No. 18 UC-Santa Cruz, No. 20 Huntingdon and No. 21 Sewanee.

Individually, the Scots were led by first year Marley Zhang (Hebei, China/Shanghai Hongqiao International School), who tied for eighth with a score of 77 72 78 - 227 (+11). Sophomore Yangyang Gu (Nantong, Jiansu, China/Shanghai Experimental School) and first year Eunice Lee (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) were both one shot back of Zhang to tie for 10th, and sophomore Esther Shen (Barcelona, Spain/The Benjamin Franklin International School) tied for 27th to round out Macalester's top four.

St. Catherine, which won the MIAC Championship on Oct. 4, is the only other MIAC team to appear in the rankings with 44 points.

Macalester, coached by Johnny Greene, will resume its schedule in the spring.
