ST. PAUL, Minn. - Macalester College junior
Tessa Myatt (Chicago, Ill./Northside College Prep) was chosen the MIAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 19, the conference announced today. Myatt broke the school record in the heptathlon at the Phil Esten Challenge Thursday and Friday at UW-LaCrosse with a score of 4,443 points.
Myatt set or tied three personal bests in scoring 488 more points than her previous best of 3,955. She opened the competition on Thursday with a 16.20 (690 points) in the 100-meter hurdles, then matched her personal best of 1.59 meters (5-2.5) in the high jump (724). Myatt tallied 711 points in the shot put with a toss of 12.75 meters (41-10), then closed out Thursday with a 28.19 PR in the 200 meters (616).
On Friday, Myatt long jumped 4.94 meters (16-2.5) for 543 points to start the day, then threw the javelin 31.24 meters (102-6) (500) for her third personal best of the meet. She finished the seven-event heptathlon with the 800 meters in 2:32.74 (659).
Myatt broke the previous school record of 4,220, set by
Katie Christenson '04 in 2001. Myatt's score ranks 22nd in Division III.
Macalester hosts the Rider/Bolstorff Invitational this Friday and Saturday at Macalester Stadium.
