MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Junior
Thomas Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Science Leadership Academy) and sophomore
Kean Pajarillaga (Saipan, Marianas Pacific/Grace Christian Academy), plus the 200-yard freestyle relay team posted top-3 finishes as the Macalester College men's swimming & diving team competed on Day 3 of the MIAC Swimming & Diving Championships Friday evening at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center. The Scots remain in fourth place with 333.50 points.
Moore was one of six Scots to qualify for the evening finals in the 200-yard freestyle. Moore placed second with a time of 1:42.70 to earn All-MIAC accolades. Sophomore
Max Taufen (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) also made the A final and finished sixth in 1:45.21 to receive All-MIAC honorable mention. In the B final, sophomore
Boden Allen (Los Angeles, Calif./Redondo Union) took 11th, first year
Evan Fouts (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) was 14th, sophomore
Tilghman Overton (Chestertown, Md./Gunston Day School) placed 15th and junior
Ryan Mickelborough (Andover, Minn./Andover) took 16th.
Pajarillaga also posted an All-MIAC performance with a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 51.29. Also in the A final, first year
Jamie Soutter (Portland, Ore./Pacific Crest Community School) placed eighth in 54.19.
Macalester's 200 free relay team of senior
Casey Meretta (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill), Moore, Taufen and senior
TJ Palli (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) broke the school record with a time of 1:24.36 to take second and earn All-MIAC honors.
Other swimmers scoring included first year
Isaac Snaza (Lakeville, Minn./Lakeville North), who was 12th in the 400-yard individual medley, Meretta, who was ninth in the 100-yard butterfly, sophomore
Jack Schumacher (Golden, Cole./Lakewood), who was 12th in the 100 fly, sophomore
Bode Thompson (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg), who placed 14th in the 100 fly, senior
Will St. John (McGaheysville, Va./East Rockingham), who finished eighth in the 100-yard breaststroke, and Palli, who was 11th in the 100 breaststroke.
In the 1-meter diving event, senior
Dylan Herlihy (Reading, Mass./Phillips Academy Andover) placed sixth with a score of 341.35.
The MIAC Championships conclude on Saturday, with sessions at 10:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
