Men’s Soccer: Scots Ranked Sixth in Region IX Rankings

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team is ranked sixth, down one spot, in this week's Region IX coaches poll conducted by the United Soccer Coaches, the organization announced today. The Scots played two regionally-ranked teams from a week ago, losing to UW-Eau Claire and beating Carleton.

After suffering a hard-fought defeat on Wednesday to UW-Eau Claire, which is ranked fourth in the region this week, Macalester rebounded with a 3-0 triumph over MIAC foe and then-eighth-ranked Carleton on Saturday. Junior forward Chris Frantz (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove), sophomore midfielder Jonathan Kim (San Diego, Calif./Torrey Pines) and first year midfielder Gaven Johnson (Harrison, Ohio/William Henry Harrison) all scored goals for the Scots. First year goalkeeper Justin Ratner (Dallas, Texas/Highland Park) registered three saves in theshutout. The win evened Macalester's MIAC record to 1-1 this season.

Augsburg, who is ranked third in the national poll, is first the Region IX rankings, followed by No. 16 St. Olaf, No. 24 Gustavus and UW-Eau Claire. Lake Forest moved up to fifth from seventh, followed by Macalester, Luther and UW-Whitewater.

The Scots play a MIAC match at Saint Mary's on Tuesday, Sept. 30. The game starts at 7:30 p.m. in Winona, Minn.
