WINONA, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team blanked Saint Mary's University, 1-0 in a MIAC road contest Tuesday night at Ochrymowycz Field. The win gives the Scots a 7-3 record overall, including a 2-1 mark in conference play. The Cardinals fall to 2-6-3, 0-3-1 MIAC.
In the first 32 minutes of the first half, Macalester put four shots on goal but the game remained scoreless. Then in the 40th minute, first year midfielder
Milan Shah (Chicago, Ill./Francis W. Parker) and junior defender
Michael Myers (San Rafael, Calif./Marin Catholic) worked a give-and-go down the right side, with Myers ultimately finding Shah inside the penalty area. Shah placed a shot inside the left post from 12 yards out to give the Scots the only goal they would need. It was his third goal of the season, which ties junior forward
Chris Frantz (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove) for the team lead.
Saint Mary's put five shots on goal in the second half looking for the equalizer, but junior goalkeeper
Drew Moseman (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Central) made all five saves to preserve the shutout, his second clean sheet of the season. For the game, Macalester held a 14-10 edge in shots taken while putting nine on goal compared to five for the Cardinals.
The Scots host No. 3 Augsburg University in a key MIAC match on Saturday, Oct. 4. The game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium.
