ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's soccer team battled a tough UW-Eau Claire team but lost, 1-0 in its final non-conference match Wednesday night at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium. The Scots are now 5-3 on the season, while the Blugolds, who advanced to the final eight of the NCAA Tournament a year ago, improve to 4-2-1.
In the 39th minute UW-Eau Claire tallied the only goal of the game. A long throw-in towards the Scots' penalty area was cleared by a defender, but Alek Laroi ran onto the loose ball and blasted a volley into the upper left corner of the goal. Macalester possessed the ball well but did not create many scoring chances. The Scots' best chance came in the 72nd minute, when a shot by junior midfielder
Kasdan Blattman (San Jose, Calif./Bellarmine) from the left side sailed just wide.
Junior goalkeeper
Drew Moseman (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Central) played all 90 minutes in goal for Macalester and made two saves.
The Scots resume MIAC play with a home game against Carleton on Saturday, Sept. 27. The game is set to start at 1:00 p.m. at John Leaney Field at Macalester Stadium.
