ST. PETER, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team competed in the ITA Midwest Regional and the Midwest Invite, hosted by Gustavus Sept. 19-21. The event served as the season opener for the Scots.

In singles play in the ITA Regional, senior Savannah Haugen (Bemidji, Minn./Bemidji) received a bye into the second round, where she lost to Kaitlyn Remke of UW-Whitewater in a tie-breaker, 4-6, 6-1, 10-6. Senior Elizabeth Trevathan (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) lost her first-round match to Hannah Cady of UW-La Crosse. Haugen and Trevathan competed in the doubles tournament and lost in the first round to Aisha Gurung and Addison Leasure of Coe.

Seven Scots competed in the Midwest Invite singles tournament, with senior Sedona Crosby (St. Paul, Minn./Highland Park), sophomores Rose Burrows (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley), Berkeley Cox (Sandpoint, Idaho/Sandpoint) and Mary Jacobson (Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell-Newburg) and first year Isabella Tamburrino (Memphis, Tenn./St. Mary's Episcopal School losing in the first round. First year Darrian Streater (Redmond, Ore./Redmond Proficiency Academy) defeated Erin Borchard of Concordia (Moorhead) and Payton Steward of Concordia Wisconsin, then lost to Coe's Cosette Gains in the third round. Sophomore Greta Laurel (River Falls, Wis./Hudson) won her first-round match over Rein Hayashi of Northwestern before falling to Claire Rewertz of St. Scholastica.

In doubles, Burrows and Jacobson, Cox and Laurel, and Streater and Tamburrino all lost in the first round of their brackets.

Macalester will play one non-conference dual during the fall, as the Scots will face UW-Superior in Superior, Wis., on Oct. 11.
