ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team lost a non-conference dual to UW-Superior, 5-2 Sunday morning at Hayden Tennis Courts. The defeat is the first of the season for the Scots, who are now 2-1. The Yellowjackets improve to 2-2.
After UW-Superior won all three doubles matches, the visitors opened singles play with wins at first, second and fifth singles to clinch the dual. First year
Isabel Gaytan (El Paso, Texas/El Paso) went to a tie-breaker at No. 4 singles to beat Lillian Kimber, 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7) at No. 4 singles. First year
Wells McDonald (Brooklyn, N.Y./Proctor Academy) won her match at No. 6 singles against Emma Laplante, 6-3, 6-1 for Macalester's other point.
The Scots complete the fall portion of their season at the ITA Fall Tournament, hosted by Gustavus Sept. 25-28 in St. Peter, Minn.
