WINONA, Minn. – The Macalester College women's tennis team earned its second straight MIAC dual victory with a 4-3 win at Saint Mary's University Sunday afternoon at the Winona Tennis Center. The Scots, who defeated Concordia by the same score yesterday, improve to 2-0 overall and in the MIAC. The Cardinals drop to 1-1.
As they did against Concordia, the Scots dropped the doubles point and won the top four singles matches. Macalester's No. 2 doubles team of first years
Isabel Gaytan (El Paso, Texas/El Paso) and
Adel Schneider (Appleton, Wis./St. Mary's Catholic) won their match, 6-1 to prevent Saint Mary's from winning all three doubles contests.
In singles, Schneider, sophomore
Darrian Streater (Redmond, Ore./Redmond Proficiency Academy) and Gaytan won their matches at second, third and fourth singles in straight sets. The dual came down to No. 1 singles, where sophomore
Isabella Tamburrino (Memphis, Tenn./St. Mary's Episcopal School) defeated Elena Ruzevich in a tie-breaker, 7-1, 1-6, 1-0 (10-6) to give Macalester the dual.
Macalester hosts UW-Superior on Saturday, Sept. 19 in a non-conference dual beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Hayden Tennis Courts.
