Women’s Cross Country: Macalester Snags Second at Ole Opener

| By:

NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Macalester College women's cross country team burst through the tape on their 2025 season today at the Ole Opener. The Scots finished second with 42 points, just behind their hosts, St. Olaf, who had 37, and ahead of St. Scholastica (70), Bethel (82), Luther (152) and Bethany Lutheran (no score).

Junior Ingrid Norquist (Minneapolis, Minn./Anoka) led the way across the finish line for Mac with a second-place finish in 18:56.1 in the 5-kilometer race. The performance came in Norquist's first collegiate cross country race. Right behind her in third place was last year's MIAC Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Year, sophomore Kate Fox (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt), who covered the course in 19:11.9, improving on her personal best from last year by just under 18 seconds.

Junior Samantha Ellis (Intervale, N.H./Gould Academy) placed eighth for the Scots in 19:39.4, an improvement of more than a minute and a half over her previous best. Junior Ivy Coldren (Frederick, Md./Urbana) followed close behind her in 10th with a 19:52.2 finish for a personal best of her own.

In a pair of Mac debuts, first years Lucy Taylor (Park City, Utah/Park City) and Aubrey Jensen (Floresville, Texas) placed 23rd (20:28.5) and 26th (20:32.9), respectively, to close out the Scots' top six.

The 2025 campaign continues for Macalester at the Hamline University Invitational on Sept. 12.
