SPARTANSBURG, S.C. – Macalester College junior
Ingrid Norquist (Minneapolis, Minn./Anoka) and sophomore
Kate Fox (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) competed in the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships, held Saturday morning at Roger Milliken Cross Country Course in Spartanburg, S.C. This is the first time since 1983 that Macalester has had two individuals qualify for the national meet.
Norquist covered the 6000-meter course in 22:41.5 to take 81st place out of 290 finishers. Fox wasn't far behind, placing 107th with a time of 22:49.9. Norquist was third among MIAC runners behind Gustavus' Molly Liston (41st) and St. Olaf's Lauren Walda (43rd), and Fox was the fifth MIAC competitor across the finish line behind Carleton's Aliya Larson (98th).
Norquist and Fox are the first Macalester runners to qualify for the national meet since
Kimber Meyer '17 competed in her fourth NCAA Championships in 2016. They earned at-large berths in the meet by finishing among the top seven runners at the NCAA North Region Meet on Nov. 15 whose teams were not selected. The Scots haven't had two individuals qualify for nationals in cross country since All-Americans and Macalester Hall of Famers
Julia Kirtland '87 and
Linda Zeman '84 in 1983. Macalester had teams qualify for the NCAA Championships in 1993, 1998, 1999 and 2005.
The NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships ends the 2025 cross country season.
