NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Senior Ingrid Norquist (Minneapolis, Minn./Anoka) finished first in the individual race to lead the Macalester College women's cross country team to a second-place finish in the team standings Friday evening at St. Olaf. The Scots scored 50 points in the first race of the season, second behind St. Olaf with 24 points and ahead of St. Scholastica (71).

Norquist won the race by 30 seconds, covering the 5-kilometer course in 18:34.7 to outdistance the field of 84 runners on a humid evening. Junior Kate Fox (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) finished sixth with a time of 19:45.9. Both Norquist and Fox qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships last fall.

The next Scot across the line was first year Lucia Williams (Corvallis, Ore./Corvallis), who took 12th in 20:03.9. Senior Samantha Ellis (Intervale, N.H./Gould Academy) finished 16th (20:17.0) and junior Kyra Morris (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Palisades Charter) placed 20th (20:17.0) to close out Macalester's top five runners. Others running well included sophomore Aubrey Jensen (Floresville, Texas) in 22nd, junior Tilia Iverson (Roseville Minn./Roseville) in 24th, senior Ivy Coldren (Frederick, Md./Urbana) in 36th, sophomore Lucy Taylor (Park City, Utah/Park City) in 38th, and first year Mary Tischler (Madison, Wis./Madison West) in 42nd.

Next up for Macalester is the Toni St. Pierre Invitational, hosted by Saint John's/Saint Benedict at River Oaks Golf Club in Cold Spring, Minn., on Sept. 18.
