ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College junior
Ingrid Norquist (Minneapolis, Minn./Anoka) and sophomore
Kate Fox (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) both qualified for the NCAA Division III Women's Cross Country Championships, which will be held on Saturday, Nov. 22 at Roger Milliken Cross Country Course in Spartanburg, S.C. The women's race begins at 10:00 a.m. Central.
Norquist and Fox are the first Macalester runners to qualify for the national meet since
Kimber Meyer '17 competed in her fourth NCAA Championships in 2016. They earned at-large berths in the meet by finishing among the top seven runners at the NCAA North Region Meet on Nov. 15 whose teams were not selected.
Norquist took ninth at the North Region Meet with a time of 22:11.0. Her performance marked the best finish by a Scot since Meyer placed fifth in 2016. Fox also earned All-Region honors by finishing 15th (22:23.4) after taking 25th a year ago at the region meet. Both Norquist and Fox turned in All-MIAC performances at the MIAC Championships on Nov. 1, with Norquist placing sixth and Fox finishing 10th.
The Scots haven't had two individuals qualify for nationals in cross country since All-Americans and Macalester Hall of Famers
Julia Kirtland '87 and
Linda Zeman '84 in 1983. Macalester had teams qualify for the NCAA Championships in 1993, 1998, 1999 and 2005.
