ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team earned the Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association, the organization announced today. This is the 15th consecutive year that the Scots have earned the honor, which recognizes teams for their academic achievement.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.
Earlier this year, 11 Scots were honored by the MIAC with Academic All-Conference accolades:
Grace Galer (Hanover Park, Ill./Schaumburg),
Stephanie Geber (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo),
Jill MacInnis (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg),
Nicole Norton (Brussels, Wis./Southern Door) and
Torrance Williams (Houston, Texas/Yes Prep Northbrook), rising seniors
Sarah Bohrer (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina),
Avery Rahe (Olathe, Kan./Olathe West) and
Grace Watkins (San Angelo, Texas/Georgetown), and rising juniors
Hannah Morrow (Raleigh, N.C./Millbrook),
Sydney Stratton (North Liberty, Iowa/Liberty), and
MiLani Terrell (Cypress, Texas/Tomball Memorial).
This year the AVCA honored a record 1,450 volleyball teams at the high school and collegiate levels with the Team Academic Award, sponsored by INTENT.
