ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's cross country team placed third in the team standings at the MIAC Championships, held Saturday morning at Highland 9 Golf Course in St. Paul. The Scots matched last year's finish, scoring 96 points, six points ahead of fourth-place Saint John's and 12 point behind second-place Carleton. St. Olaf won the meet with 33 points.
For the second year in a row Macalester had two runners in the top 15, earning All-MIAC honors. Sophomore
John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) placed eighth, covering the 8000-meter course in 25:53.1. Ihrke's finish is the highest by a Scot since
Wade Eckstrom '10 finished fifth in 2009. Senior
Tyler Edwards (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal), who was 10th at last year's MIAC Championships, took 15th in 26:05.6 to earn All-MIAC accolades for the second straight year. Edwards also received All-MIAC honorable mention in 2023 with a 23rd-place finish.
The next three Scots came across the line within four seconds of each other, with senior
Jordan Galloway (Portland, Ore./Grant) taking 27th with a time of 26:47.2. Junior
Daniel Wiltse (Missoula, Mont./Hellgate) followed in 28th (26:49.5), with junior
Owen Lafferty (Woodbury, Minn./Mounds Park Academy) right behind him in 30th (26:51.1). Macalester's spread between their top five runners was 58 seconds.
Also running well were sophomore
Caleb Hatlevig (Stow, Mass./Francis W. Parker Charter Essential School) in 41st, sophomore
Sam Parsons (Eugene, Ore./South Eugene) in 45th, senior
Jay Lebakken (Minneapolis, Minn./Edina) in 49th, and first years
Ben Walton-Scott (Atlanta, Ga./The Paideia School) and
Matthew Walton-Scott (Atlanta, Ga./The Paideia School) in 51st and 52nd, respectively.
Macalester competes at the Canon River Closer on Thursday, Nov. 6 at St. Olaf.
