COLFAX, Wis. – The Macalester College men's cross country team competed well at the Blugold Invitational, hosted by UW-Eau Claire Friday morning. The Scots finished 11th out of 34 teams, including some of the top teams in the North Region, on the same course where the NCAA North Region Meet will be held next month.
Macalester was led by sophomore
John Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North), who covered the 8000-meter course in 25:54.3 to finish 37th. First year
Chase Fitterer (Spokane, Wash./International School of Business) was next for the Scots in 55th (26:11.3), followed by junior
Daniel Wiltse (Missoula, Mont./Hellgate) in 84th (26:38.0). Senior
Tyler Edwards (Beaverton, Ore./Oregon Episcopal) and first year
Donovan Connole (West Hartford, Conn./William H. Hall) closed out the Scots' top five in 103rd and 123rd, respectively. The race had 322 finishers, with Augsburg's Mohammed Bati crossing the finishing first in 24:39.6.
Next up for Macalester is the Augustana Interregional Invitational on Oct. 18 in Rock island, Ill.
