ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's swimming & diving team hosted the Roger Ahlman Invitational Friday and Saturday at Riley Pool and finished second in the team standings. The Scots scored 944 points, behind only Gustavus with 962.5 and ahead of St. Olaf (699.5), Concordia (216) and Hamline (139). The highlight of the meet was a school record by senior
Caroline Chapon (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township).
Chapon set the record in the 100-yard individual medley with a time of 1:00.18, breaking the old record of 1:00.50 set by
Jocelyn Radke '24 last year. The record came in a time trial and did not count in the team scoring.
On Friday, Macalester posted two individual wins. Senior
Skye Schmit (Stillwater, Minn.) won the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:03.11, with first year
Molly Nuckolls (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) taking second in 18:20.62. Junior
Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith) won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.57. Senior
Verity Wray-Raabolle (Owatonna, Minn./Bethlehem Academy) finished second in 24.70. The Scots' 400-yard medley relay team of Wray-Raabolle, first year
Carolyn Wolking (Micanopy, Fla./Santa Fe College), Henry and Chapon took second in 4:00.00, while the 800-yard freestyle foursome of senior
Natalie Pollock (Madison, Wis./Madison West), first years
Maya Tellez (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) and
Amalia Shields (Madison, Wis./Madison West), and Schmit also placed second in 7:56.26.
On Saturday, Macalester's 200-yard freestyle relay team of Wray-Raabolle, Henry, senior
Olga Merkadeau (Lafayette, Calif./The College Preparatory School) and Chapon finished first with a time of 1:38.25. In the individual events, Tellez won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:12.90, with Schmit taking third in 5:15.51. Wolking finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:30.16.
Runner-up finishes were turned in by Chapon in the 400-yard individual medley (4:47.99) and the 100-yard freestyle; Henry in the 100-yard butterfly (59.40) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.63); and Wray-Raabolle in the 100-yard backstroke (59.21). Others taking third were Tellez in the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.03); Wolking in the 100-yard breaststroke; Shields in the 100-yard freestyle (54.09); and Nuckolls in the 200-yard butterfly.
In the diving events, senior
Kate Yehle (Madison, Wis./james Madison Memorial) finished third on the 3-meter board and fourth on the 1-meter board.
The Roger Ahlman Invitational is the final competition of the semester. The Scots will return to competing on Jan. 18 at St. Olaf.
