ST. PAUL, Minn. – Four Macalester College women's swimming & diving team members were named to the Division III Academic All-District Team, as chosen by the College Sports Communicators. Senior
Nadia Lanz (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) makes her third appearance on the Academic All-District Team, while senior
Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith) and sophomores
Molly Nuckolls (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) and
Maya Téllez (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) are receiving their first Academic All-District honor.
A repeat selection on the Academic All-District team, Lanz finished third in the 400-yard individual medley at the MIAC Championships to earn All-MIAC status for the second time in her career. She also received All-MIAC honorable mention with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke. Lanz, who also is a two-time MIAC All-Academic honoree, is majoring in psychology and educational studies.
Henry concluded her standout career by earning All-MIAC honors with a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly at the MIAC Championships. A six-time All-MIAC honoree, she also was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle to receive All-MIAC honorable mention in that event this winter. Henry also broke the school record in the 100-yard individual medley in her final swim as a Scot. She is majoring in political science and history and has made the All-MIAC Academic team twice.
Nuckolls won the MIAC title in the 200-yard butterfly this winter and also placed second in the 500-yard freestyle. She also was All-MIAC in the 800-yard freestyle relay this year and the 1650-yard freestyle last year. Nuckolls is majoring in linguistics.
Téllez turned in a pair of All-MIAC performances in the individual events this year, taking second in the 200-yard individual medley and third in the 200-yard freestyle. She also was on the Scots' 800-yard freestyle relay team that finished second. Téllez is a neuroscience major at Macalester.
Student-athletes must be at a sophomore, junior or senior, have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.50 and have either competed in five of their team's competitions or finished in the top eight at the conference championships to be considered for Academic All-District and All-American accolades.
