ST. PETER, Minn. – The Macalester College men's swimming & diving team turned in some strong performances at the Grace Goblirsch Invitational, hosted by Gustavus Saturday afternoon. The Scots placed fourth out of six teams with 396 points.
Macalester's 200-yard freestyle relay team of juniors
TJ Palli (Maple Grove, Minn./Maple Grove),
Casey Meretta (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and
Alec Chen (Edina, Minn./Edina), and first year
Jack Schumacher (Golden, Colo./Lakewood) placed fifth with a time of 1:31.89. Also taking fifth was the 400-yard freestyle team of Meretta, Palli, Chen and senior
Adam Schroeder (Altadena, Calif./St. Francis) in 3:22.96.
Palli posted the highest individual finishes for the Scots, taking second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.98. He also placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.04. First year
Bode Thompson (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) finished third in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:07.48, while senior
Ben Lewin (Beachwood, Ohio/Beachwood) was fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:26.03. Schroeder started his day with a fifth-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle in 18:53.43.
In the diving events, junior
Dylan Herlihy (Reading, Mass./Phillips Academy Andover) took fifth on the 1-meter board (184.15) and sixth on the 3-meter board (175.90).
Macalester hosts the Roger Ahlman Invitational Dec. 6-7 at Riley Pool in the final competition of the semester.
