Why did you choose to attend Macalester?
Factors such as the school’s academic rigor, urban setting, action taken towards climate change, and diverse student body all sparked my interest in Macalester. With all this being said, what made my decision to attend Macalester was the lengths the institution went through to understand and embrace me. The Swim and Dive team opened their arms to invite a diver who is new to the sport, and how the Admissions team went through great lengths to not only understand my journey (especially as a gymnast), but to understand my needs, was what ultimately did it for me. Simply, I did not find Macalester. It found me, and then went out of its way to embrace me. I am so glad I made the decision to come here, and I am eternally grateful for those who made this journey possible for me.

What has your experience at Macalester meant to you?
My experience at Macalester, especially as a student-athlete, has been a wonderful experience. I have been given the opportunity to step outside of my comfort zone, transitioning from a decade of competitive gymnastics to diving, and in a new location far from home. The friends I have made in Minnesota, and the teammates and coaches supporting me on the pool deck has made this endeavor possible.

How has your experience as a student-athlete at Macalester helped shape you as an individual?
My experience as a student-athlete has shaped me to be someone who is more open to change and also as someone who is more confident in in my abilities. This has happened as a direct result of being a part of such a massive team, something I had never been a part of before, which has changed my perspective on how to be the best teammate that I can be. Additionally, my own sport of diving has pushed me to become more willing to take calculated risks and push my mind to the limit along with my body. Finally, my leadership skills have also been further developed, as my role on the team has put me in a position where my voice is rather valuable.
