ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College senior midfielder
Ella Short (Denver, Colo./Denver East) received All-MIAC honorable mention as the conference announced its season-ending awards today. This is the first All-MIAC honor for Short, who started 36 straight games to finish her career as a Scot.
Short was a key part of Macalester's central midfielders as a ball-winner and distributor. She logged over 1,000 minutes of playing time while starting all 17 games this season. Short registered an assist in a 5-0 win over Crown on Sept. 4, and also assisted on the game-winning goal by first year forward
Reese Preston (Los Altos, Calif./Summit Prep) in a 3-1 victory at St. Scholastica on Oct. 12. In 66 career games, she totaled three goals and five assists for 11 points while starting 51 games. Also an excellent student, Short has made the Academic All-MIAC team after each of the past two seasons.
Lauryn Skoruppa of Saint Mary's was named the MIAC Offensive Player of the Year, Dakota Leonard of Saint Mary's is the Defensive Player of the Year and Jaidyn Richter of St. Catherine is the Rookie of the Year. Saint Mary's head coach Nick Rizzo was selected the MIAC Coach of the Year.
