ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's swimming & diving team earned a dual meet victory over the College of Saint Benedict in the home opener Saturday afternoon at Riley Pool. The Scots out-scored the Bennies, 150-93.
Macalester's 200-yard medley relay team started the meet with a victory by the foursome of senior
Verity Wray-Raabolle (Owatonna, Minn./Bethlehem Academy), first year
Carolyn Wolking (Micanopy, Fla./Santa Fe College), senior
Olga Merkadeau (Lafayette, Calif./The College Preparatory School) and junior
Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith). Their winning time was 1:51.56. The Scots also won the final event of the meet, as sophomore
Megan Chopskie (Cloquet, Minn./Esko), Merkadeau, Wray-Raabolle and Chapon took first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:42.65.
Individually, first year
Molly Nuckolls (Lawrence, Kan./Free State) won a pair of events, taking first in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:53.65) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:21.22). Senior
Caroline Chapon (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) also won two events, placing first in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:54.57 and the 100-yard freestyle in 55.78. Merkadeau won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.72, while Wolking finished first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.63.
In the diving events, senior
Kate Yehle (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial) won the 1-meter event with a score of 190.45. Yehle, last week's MIAC Diver of the Week, also took second on the 3-meter board with a score of 198.25.
Other swimmers with runner-up finishes include sophomore
Claire Stretanski (Shavertown, Pa./Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School) in the 1000 free (11:57.97); first year
Maya Tellez (Woodbury, Minn./Woodbury) in both the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.34) and 500 free (5:32.00); junior
Hannah Zurn (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) in the 400 IM; senior
Olivia Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Shorewood) in the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.03); and Wray-Raabolle in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.65).
Macalester returns to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 9 with a home meet against Carleton at Riley Pool.
