ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College women's swimming and diving team won 12 of 14 swimming events to defeat St. Olaf in a dual meet Saturday afternoon at Riley Pool. The Scots scored 174 points, with St. Olaf posting 100 points.
Macalester opened and closed the meet by winning two relays. The foursome of junior
Verity Wray-Raabolle (Owatonna, Minn./Bethlehem Academy), sophomore
Izzy Uhlhorn-Thornton (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais), junior
Olga Merkadeau (Lafayette, Calif./The College Preparatory School) and sophomore
Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith) captured the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:51.90. The 400-yard freestyle relay of Merkadeau, junior
Natalie Pollock (Madison, Wis./Madison West) and senior
Jocelyn Radke (Indianapolis, Ind.) won with a time of 3:44.14.
In the individual events, Uhlhorn-Thornton led the way with three victories. She won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.91, the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:28.91, and the 400-yard individual medley in 4:54.15. Henry was victorious in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.02) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:28.27), while Radke won both the 50-yard freestyle (25.35) and the 100-yard butterfly (59.21). Skye Schmit (Stillwater, Minn.), who won the 200-yard freestyle in 2:01.15, sophomore
Hannah Zurn (Hudson, Wis./Hudson), who captured the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:16.27, and Wray-Raabolle, who won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:15.80.
Henry led a top-3 sweep of the 100 back, with Radke placing second (1:01.21) and Wray-Raabolle taking third (1:01.99). First years
Claire Stretanski (Shavertown, Pa./Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School) and
Laura Williams (Bedford, N.Y./Fox Lane) went 2-3 in the 1000-yard freestyle, with Merkadeau and Schmit doing the same in the 100-yard freestyle. Sophomore
Nadia Lanz (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) finished second in the 400 IM, first year
Nicole Tilzer (Tampa, Fla./Sickles) was third in the 100-yard breaststroke, and junior
Caroline Chapon (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) placed third in the 100 fly.
Macalester hosts Grinnell College in the final home meet of the season on Saturday, Jan. 27. The Scots will recognize their seniors before the meet, which begins at 11:00 a.m. at Riley Pool.
