ST. PETER, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team sent six student-athletes to compete in the ITA Regional and Midwest Open, held Friday and Saturday at Gustavus Adolphus.
In the doubles draw at the ITA Regional, juniors
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) and
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) won their first-round match on Friday, defeating Ryan Will and Ian Aadland of Saint John's 8-5. In the second round on Saturday, Doi and Lynch were eliminated by the tournament's No. 5 seed, Marco Siviero and Josh Christensen of Gustavus, 8-4. In singles,
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) beat Will, 6-1, 6-4 in the first round before losing in the second round to Elios Braind of Carthage in straight sets. Doi and Lynch lost their first-round singles matches on Friday.
In the Midwest Open, senior
Lewis Jolly (Grinnell, Iowa/Grinnell) and first years
Kangyu Li (Shanghai, China/Shanghai Southwest Weiyu) and
Kevin Mortimer (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) lost their first singles matches on Friday. Also, Li and Mortimer dropped their first-round doubles match.
