ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College volleyball team earned the Team Academic Award from the American Volleyball Coaches Association, the organization announced today. This the 13th consecutive year that the Scots have earned the honor, which recognizes teams for their academic achievement.
The award, which was initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.
Earlier this year, 11 Scots were honored by the MIAC with Academic All-Conference accolades:
Emily Drexler (Portland, Ore./Roosevelt),
Eliza King (Novato, Calif./San Marin),
Zoe Lowe (Longmont, Colo./Longmont),
Carmen Quintos (Portland, Ore./Riverdale) and
Annika White (Stillwater, Minn./St. Croix Prep Academy), rising seniors
Anna Fritz (Mountain View, Calif./Mountain View),
Abi Janzen (Ames, Iowa/Ames) and
Nalani Tokuhama (Pearl City, Hawaii/Pearl City), and rising juniors
Grace Galer (Hanover Park, Ill./Schaumburg),
Stephanie Geber (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo) and
Torrance Williams (Houston, Texas/Yes Prep Northbrook).
This year the AVCA honored 1,333 volleyball teams at the high school and collegiate levels with the Team Academic Award.
