ORLANDO, Fla. – The Macalester College men's tennis team played its first match of its spring trip down in Orlando, Fla. The Scots played a tough match against Franklin and Marshall College, falling 9-0. The Scots are now 4-3 (2-0 MIAC).
Senior
Matthew Sullivan (Tacoma, Wash./Weil) and sophomore
Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) put up a fight at No. 1 doubles, but fell 8-5. Slated at second and third doubles respectively, the pairs of sophomore
Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) and senior
Anton Korolev (Moscow, Russia/Weil) and senior
Josh Marine (Honolulu, Hawaii/Summit) and sophomore
Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy), each lost 8-4.
Doi went to three sets at No. 3 singles but lost the match (7-5, 3-6, 13-15). At second singles, Sullivan forced his match to three sets (3-6, 7-6, 3-7). The Diplomats also took the points at first, fourth, fifth, and sixth singles.
Macalester's next match will be Tuesday March 14 in Orlando, Fla. The Scots will play Ohio Wesleyan beginning at 7:30 p.m. EDT.
