NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Macalester College women's swimming and diving team edged Carleton in a dual meet, 149.5-146.5 Saturday afternoon at Thorpe Pool. The meet went down to the final event before the Scots clinched the win.
With the score 143.5 for Macalester to 135.5 for Carleton before the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Scots needed to either win the relay or take second and third. The Knights' A relay team won the event, followed by the Scots' A relay team of junior

Elizabeth Batsaikhan (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia/East Chapel Hill) out-touched the Knights' B team by 0.81 seconds in 1:45.18, giving the Scots the team victory.
Macalester won eight individual events, led by Schmit's three victories. Her winning time of 10:44.05 in the 1000-yard freestyle broke the pool record, previously held by
Heather Lendway '06, an All-American at Macalester who was inducted into the Macalester Hall of Fame in 2017. Schmit also won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.07 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:20.38.
Sophomore
Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith) won two events, capturing the 200-yard backstroke in 2:10.61 and the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:01.63. Henry also placed second in the 200 freestyle in 2:01.97. Sophomore
Izzy Uhlhorn-Thornton (Mill Valley, Calif./Tamalpais) won both the 200-yard breaststroke (2:29.84) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.69) while finishing second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.08). Macalester's other individual winner was sophomore
Hannah Zurn (Hudson, Wis./Hudson), who won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:17.68. Zurn also was second in the 500 freestyle in 5:30.96.
Others posting second-place finishes were Radke in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.29, and junior
Kate Yehle (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial), who took second in both diving events.
Macalester hosts St. Catherine and Hamline in the first home meet of the season on Friday, Nov. 10. The meet begins at 5:30 p.m. in Riley Pool.
