COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – The Macalester College women's swimming and diving team began the 2023-24 campaign with a victory over the College of Saint Benedict in a dual meet Saturday afternoon at Saint John's Warner Palaestra Pool. The Scots won the team competition with 162.0 points to 131.0 for the Bennies.

Jocelyn Radke (Indianapolis, Ind.), first year
Megan Chopskie (Cloquet, Minn./Esko), junior
Olga Merkadeau (Lafayette, Calif./The College Preparatory School) and sophomore
Emma Henry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith) won with a time of 1:42.13.
Sophomore
Skye Schmit (Stillwater, Minn.) won two distance events: the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.51) and the 1000-yard freestyle (10:51.61). Schmit qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 1650-yard freestyle last season. Henry also won a pair of events, taking the 200-yard backstroke in 2:14.76 and winning the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.42. The Scots' other double winner was junior
Kate Yehle (Madison, Wis./James Madison Memorial), who won both diving events. Yehle scored 203.95 points in the 1-meter event and 194.95 points in the 3-meter event.
Radke placed first in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.58 and took second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.53. Other winners included junior
Natalie Pollock (Madison, Wis./Madison West) in the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.68), and sophomore
Hannah Zurn (Hudson, Wis./Hudson) in the 200-yard butterfly (2:17.43). Zurn also was second to Schmit in the 500 freestyle in 5:30.19, while Pollock followed Henry in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:05.62.
Others swimming well included Chopskie, who was third in the 100-yard freestyle, first year
Nicole Tilzer (Tampa, Fla./Sickles), who was second in both the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke, first year
Claire Stretanski (Shavertown, Pa./Wyoming Seminary College Preparatory School), who finished second to Schmit in the 1000 freestyle, and Merkadeau, who took third in the 50-yard freestyle.
Macalester continues its schedule on Nov. 4 with a dual meet at Carleton. The first event begins at 1:00 p.m. in Northfield, Minn.
