Men’s Track & Field: Menache Sets School Record, Multiple Scots Crack Top-10 School History List at St. Olaf Quad

 NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Macalester College men's track and field team had multiple Scots make their mark on the Top-10 All-Time list in Macalester history today, as the Scots competed at the St. Olaf Quad.
 
Sophomore Max Menache (Beverly Hills, Calif./Beverly Hills) headlines the Scots' performances of the day, setting a school record in the weight throw. Menache came in second, with a mark of 15.33m (50' 3.5"), topping Gary Carlson's mark of 49'-11.5" set in 1990. Senior Victor Wright (Cape Coral, Fla./Mariner) finished just behind Menache, with a mark of 14.76m. Wright's mark is the third best mark in Macalester history for the weight throw. Menache also came in sixth in the shot put.
 
On the track, sophomores Tor Olsson (Northampton, Mass./Northampton) and Ben Crotteau (Lincoln, Neb./Lincoln Southeast) took second and third in the mile. Their respective times of 4:22.98 and 4:23.34 rank sixth and seventh all-time in Macalester history. In the 5000m run, sophomore Nick Ihrke (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North) finished second in a time of 15:23.78. This is the sixth best time in Macalester history. Fellow sophomore Reece McKee (Charlottesville, VA./Charlottesville) took third in the event, (15:39.43) ranking eighth all-time at Macalester.
 
Other highlights on the day include sophomore Kalid Ali (St. Paul, Minn./Como Park) and senior Lachlan Witt (Kinnelon, N.J./Morris Catholic) finishing second and third in the 600m run. Ali also combined with graduate student Ryan Kinnucan (Portland, Ore./Grant), and first years Thomas Malecha (Faribault, Minn.) and Henry Schonebaum (Faribault, Minn./Fariabult) took take third in the 4x400m relay.
 
Macalester will send athletes to two meets next weekend. The Scots will compete at the Gopher Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota, and at the Ted Nelson Classic hosted by Minnesota State-Mankato on Saturday Feb 4.
