ST. PAUL, Minn. – Macalester College women's soccer team had three athletes received MIAC honors, as the conference announced its season-ending awards today. Senior
Sarah Hamilton (Chanhassen, Minn./Minnetonka) was recognized as All-MIAC, while seniors
Lily Lorenzen (San Francisco, Calif./Urban School of San Francisco) and
Lucy Grochulska (Henrico, VA./Henrico) were recognized as All-MIAC Honorable Mention.
Hamilton led the Scots this season in the center of midfield. Hamilton created chances for the Scots offensively, including two goals of her own. She scored against St. Olaf on Sept. 24 in a 2-1 victory and against Carleton on Oct. 16, in a 2-2 draw. Hamilton started in all 19 games this season, logging the most minutes on the team with 1526. Hamilton has played an important role for Macalester throughout her career, directing the offense. Last year, Hamilton was recognized as All-MIAC Honorable Mention.
Lorenzen started and played in 18 matches this season as a defender. She was a key player for the Scots in denying the opponents opportunities against Macalester. She logged 1417 minutes this season, 3529 in her career. This season, Lorenzen also tallied an assist for the first goal in the 2-1 victory against Hamline on Oct. 1. As a Scot, Lorenzen had a major impact on the backline, starting in 42 of 50 appearances during her time at Macalester.
Grochulska has also been a prominent player for Macalester's midfield in her career. This season, Grochulska co-led the team with 11 points (5 goals and 1 assist) in 18 appearances. She scored the first of three goals in the 3-0 win over Northwestern (MN) on Sept. 10 and scored the game winner in the 2-1 triumph over St. Olaf on Sept. 24. Her assist occurred on Sept. 27, in a 2-2 tie against Bethel. Grochulska's leadership and offensive prowess helped the Scots reach the quarterfinals of the MIAC Playoffs this year.
The Scots finished 8-6-5 (4-4-3 MIAC) this season.
