ST. PETER, Minn. – The Macalester College men's tennis team competed in the ITA Regional, held Friday and Saturday at Gustavus Adolphus. The individual tournament served as the season opener for the Scots.

In the doubles draw, sophomore Jordan Doi (Mililani, Hawaii/Mililani) and senior Anton Korolev (Moscow, Russia/Weil) defeated a team from Saint Mary's to advance to the second round, where the lost a close match to ninth-seeded Hunter Roseth and John Foley from UW-Eau Claire, 8-7. Also in doubles, the pairs of sophomore Alec Sargent (Rochester, Minn./Rochester Century) and senior Matthew Sullivan (Tacoma, Wash./Weil), and sophomores Liam Lynch (St. Paul, Minn./St. Paul Academy) and Lucas Wood (Urbana, Ill./University Lab School) both lost in the first round.

Doi, Korolev, Sargent, Sullivan, Lynch and Wood all competed in the singles draw and dropped first round matches, with Lynch battling Daniel Jaworski of Carthage to a 10-point tie-breaker before losing, 5-7, 6-2, 11-9.

Four Scots also competed in the Midwest Open, also hosted by Gustavus. In singles, senior Sawyer Michaelson (Minneapolis, Minn./Southwest) and sophomore Maxwell Davis (Warwick, Pa./Stone Independent School) both won first-round matches, with Davis advancing to the fourth round with wins over Connor Fuzzey of Luther and Chris Pena-Hull of Cornell in the second and third rounds. Davis fell in the fourth round to Simon Kennel of Grinnell, 8-3. Sophomore Owen Lindstrom (Hanover, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville) also competed in singles.

In doubles, Michaelson and sophomore Martin Stoner (South Bend, Ind./Adams) defeated a team from the University of Northwestern before dropping a second-round match to a team from Luther. Davis and Lindstrom also competed in the doubles draw.

Macalester will return to action in the spring.
