ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Macalester College men's swimming and diving team went head-to-head with St. Olaf in the team's first competition since December on Saturday at Riley Pool. The Scots, who won four individual events and one relay, lost to the Oles, 175-101 in the team scoring.
First year
Charles Batsaikhan (Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia/East Chapel Hill) led the way with victories in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:01.86 and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.59. He also finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.03. First year
Adam Schroeder (Altadena, Calif./St. Francis) won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:55.27, while first year
Ben Lewin (Beachwood, Ohio/Beachwood) captured the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24.11. Lewin also took third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:06.17.
Schroeder, seniors
Benjamin Blomquist (Las Vegas, Nev./Ed W. Clark) and
Aidan Williams (Chicago, Ill./Walter Payton College Prep), and first year
Isaac Kisker (Dayton, Ohio/Oakwood) closed out the meet with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:31.17.
Kisker was one of several Scots to earn second-place finishes, as Kisker took second in the 50-yard freestyle in 22.83. Other runners-up included sophomore
Will Nicholson (North Yarmouth, Maine) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.40), first year
Jay Fanning (Tiffin, Ohio/Columbian) in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:10.77), first year
Ramier Villarama (Bayonne, N.J./High Tech) in the 200-yard butterfly, and first year
Ryan McNeff (Seattle, Wash./Roosevelt) in the 400-yard individual medley (4:48.73).
Others taking third in their events were Williams in both the 50-yard freestyle (23.05) and the 100-yard freestyle (51.87), Nicholson in the 200-yard backstroke (2:16.66), Fanning in the 100-yard butterfly (58.76) and first year
Adrian Aguilar (Oakland, Calif./St. Joseph's Notre Dame) in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.85).
Macalester hosts Grinnell on Saturday, Jan. 29 in the final competition before the MIAC Championships.
